Chapter 4 is where your participants’ voices come to life. In this focused, application-driven course, doctoral students learn how to systematically analyze qualitative data and present findings with clarity, rigor, and scholarly depth.
This course guides students through the full qualitative analysis process—from organizing raw data to identifying themes and constructing meaningful findings aligned with research questions. Emphasis is placed on transparency, trustworthiness, and writing results in a way that demonstrates methodological integrity while preserving participant voice.
Key areas of focus include:
Preparing and organizing qualitative data (transcripts, field notes, documents)
Coding strategies (open, axial, thematic, in vivo, etc.)
Developing categories and themes
Using qualitative software (e.g., NVivo, MAXQDA) or manual coding systems
Ensuring credibility, dependability, and trustworthiness
Aligning findings with research questions
Integrating participant quotations effectively
Structuring Chapter 4 for clarity and logical flow
Distinguishing between findings (Chapter 4) and interpretation (Chapter 5)
Participants will learn how to present qualitative results in a way that demonstrates rigor without overwhelming the reader. Templates and organizational frameworks are provided to reduce confusion and prevent common committee revisions.
By the end of the course, students will have a structured draft of their findings chapter and a clear strategy for transitioning into implications and recommendations in Chapter 5.
Ideal for:
Doctoral students conducting qualitative research who need structured guidance in coding, theme development, and writing a defensible, well-organized findings chapter.
